Our Mission:

At Nawigzigweyas, we understand that it takes a community to raise a child. Our school is a place of manācitiwin (Respect), where students are encouraged to express themselves and explore new ideas with courage. We are dedicated to building a strong anishinabewin (Identity) through an educational program that celebrates the diverse gifts of each student, helping them stay connected to their family, their language, and their heritage.

Nawigizigweyas Education Centre is guided by a vision of providing a safe, caring, and supportive environment where students can achieve their full potential. At the heart of this vision is a commitment to delivering a balanced education that not only supports academic growth but also nurtures the preservation and continuation of the language and cultural identity gifted to the community by the Creator. This vision was first established by the Elders at the time the school was founded and continues to shape the school’s direction today.

At Nawigizigweyas, there is a strong understanding that raising a child is a shared responsibility within the community. The school is a place rooted in manācitiwin (respect), where students are encouraged to express themselves, explore new ideas, and grow with confidence. The educational approach is centered on fostering a strong sense of anishinabewin (identity), recognizing and celebrating the unique strengths of each student. Through this approach, students remain connected to their families, their language, and their cultural heritage.

The values that guide Nawigizigweyas Education Centre reflect a deep commitment to holistic education. These include the importance of language, culture, and land-based learning; a strong focus on teaching and learning, particularly in literacy and numeracy; and an emphasis on student engagement and retention. These values were thoughtfully established and accepted by both the Elders and the staff, ensuring they reflect the shared vision and priorities of the entire school community.
