Prior to 2023, the “Housing Department” was administered by 1 Manager and 1 assistant-manager or “CMHC Administrator”. Under this type of management, housing programs were in disarray and in overwhelming debt, infrastructure was failing and there was a high turnover of management and staff.

Since 2023, The department has undergone extensive restructuring and organizational changes. These changes helped offset the massive amount of responsibility in taking care of a community. The revised Housing, Operations and Maintenance Department is now mandated to provide safe and stable housing and to ensure community assets are maintained in a safe, efficient, and sustainable manner.

Carrying the “lessons learned” from our past, the Housing, O&M has moved forward in leaps and bounds. We no longer operate in debt, we no longer practice outdated management and techniques that keep our nation from booming. Through patience and resolve, we have brought stability, strength and perseverance to the department. Through developed policies and practices, we ensure continuity and growth.

Today, A Director of Housing and Public Works provide leadership to both the Housing and Operations and Maintenance departments respectively as senior manager. This position also creates the annual work plan and budget, presides directly over all new capital projects on-reserve, and ensures building codes and public works operations meet or exceed legislative or regulation compliances.
The Housing Coordinator supports the organization to provide safe, stable housing by coordinating housing placements, assisting residents, and ensuring effective management of housing programs – including the repairs and maintenance of housing units. This position serves as a liaison between tenants, housing committee, case managers, and community partners to promote successful housing outcomes and resident stability. The Housing Coordinator also develops maintenance plans, manages budgets, supervises staff, and coordinates with external contractors and funding agencies related to Housing Programs.
